Veronica was sure she could have thought of worse times if she'd put her mind to it, but there was no denying that it was strange to hear now in that incontestably female voice. The meaning of it, though, was worth hearing. Even as she was sure it was all a bad idea, that the only way to be safe was to stay clear of anything that had anything even remotely to do with feelings, she liked hearing it.
She also liked knowing the girl's name. Stacy. There weren't many of those around, if any. She couldn't help wanting to get a look at her, whatever Mathias said.
Brushing her hair back from her face, she blinked and took a deep breath, looking down at her hands stretched flat before her. "I... I'm sorry," she said carefully, not fully concealing a hint of playfulness, the beginning of a smirk, "I'm just - I don't like girls that way." But oh, god help her, she liked him.
