Arms draped across the table, Veronica leaned her weight on them, brow arching at him. "That's good, right?" she asked, hating this uncharacteristic hesitation, this not knowing. "At least she's safe here." It wasn't safe as most might have thought of it, but it was safer than Neptune and safer than crazy evil vines. With what she knew of what had happened, the island had to be better than that. It was one thing she felt no urge to make into a joke, and still it seemed like there was a catch around the corner, something that would mar things for her even if it was all swell and dandy for him. There always was.
