"Good," he answers honestly, not even needing to hesitate or think about the answer. It's nice to be able to do that, when so much of his time on the island since Veronica's disappearance has been difficult. But he is doing well, all things considered, though sometimes he still wonders about what might have been. Even that isn't fair and it isn't Sookie's fault, so he smiles at her, genuinely pleased to see her.

"How have you been?" he asks in return, reaching for his towel finally, suddenly aware that he's sitting in the sand in his wet shorts. He rubs it over his hair, then drapes the towel around his shoulders and grins up at her. "Sorry, I'm still a little wet. I was just going for a dive."

Sometimes, he's still worried about running out of oxygen, because he knows the tanks will only last so long, but he also knows he can't stop diving either. It isn't an option for him, not when he's been doing it for so long.
