Mathias goes silent at that for a moment, watching the trees as they walk, hoping to catch a glimpse of something that he'd been looking for back home. When it doesn't happen immediately, he tells himself that they'll see one before the day is done, then looks over at Veronica again with a faintly embarrassed smile.

"I wanted to see some monkeys in Mexico," he admits, remembering his conversation with Jeff. "We didn't see any on the way to the ruins and I remember being sort of... disappointed."
