"Were you horribly uncool?" Mathias asks, his grin turning up further at the corners, teasing her gently. "I suppose some of us just can't help that, can we?" He was never considered unpopular back home and he'd always had friends, but he couldn't deny that people had always thought there was something strange enough him.
