"Yeah," Veronica says, nodding, letting out a breath, "yeah, it's good." It is, in a way that even now, she's not used to. She's not sure she'd want to be, for that matter, not sure she ever wants to take this for granted when she knows she's done that on more than a few occasions in the past, always bad at remembering that the people in her life occasionally are due something for staying at her side all this time.
